The purpose of this webinar is to show professionals and students in the laboratory approaches from Lean Management for improving effectiveness and quality. In the first part, an overview is given of the tools and methods that can be used in a Lean laboratory and the effects that can be achieved.
The overview includes:
- The principles of lean management.
- Methods like 8- Wastes, 5S/6S and Kanban
- Gemba walk
- Store floor management
- Key performance indicators
After a break, the second part will concretely show the application in the laboratory with concrete examples based on the method 8-waste types.Afterwards there will be a question and discussion session with the two experts.

Erwin Studer obtained his master of Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Bern in 1983. For several years he was a project engineer at the pharmaceutical companies Roche and Novartis. In 1994 he co-founded the consultancy company Profact Ag. They support companies in their projects regarding lean management and organization of production, logistics and planning. The previous 20 years Erwin was a lean consultant for the Boehringer Ingelheim company.
Daniel Fuchs successfully followed several management and marketing courses. During his 28 years at Mettler Toledo he fulfilled various management roles. Since 3 years he is head of Skills Development & Training at Mettler Toledo. He leads the Training Centre and all training hubs worldwide. Together with his team, he creates the annual training plan and defines the specific training targets, assessment and competence skills.
