Training University Teachers for the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities

Following higher education with an intellectual disability? It should be possible, but it rarely happens, if at all.
This is a pity, because it limits the possibilities of these people in all kinds of areas such as finding a job, entering into social relationships, ...

If we also want to include this group of students in higher education, there is a need for a clear framework and guidelines, especially for teachers!
After all, it is not unimaginable that lecturers feel insufficiently familiar and competent to teach students with intellectual disabilities.

By designing a training program, TUT4IND tries to teach teachers the necessary knowledge and skills to also involve students with a mental disability in their lessons. The program will focus on various contents including communication, social activities, technology, ... With the aim of eliminating possible barriers that students with intellectual disabilities may experience when participating in higher education. In order to exchange good practices as much as possible, a virtual learning environment will also be developed where teachers from different schools and even countries can share their experiences, knowledge and tips with each other.

During the implementation of this project, there will be close cooperation with relevant stakeholders, to ensure that the project and its subsequent results meet the needs of people with intellectual disabilities as much as possible.
