Clinical Leadership in Nursing Education

Clinical leadership (CL) is required from nurses to guarantee safe and high-quality care and deliver it efficiently in the current complex healthcare system with diminishing resources. Yet, CL is not well defined and integrated in the nursing education curricula in Europe. Therefore, this project aims to develop a conceptual framework on CL. Based on this framework nursing education curricula will be revised. The goal is to strengthen the nursing profession and improve safe and efficient care.

First, a preliminarty conceptual framework for CL will be developed, based on a literature review. This framework will be discussed in workshops with stakeholders and experts in CL in all three partner countries. Second, we will develop a SWOT tool, which can be used to examine how CL skills develop in nursing studies. Third, the project's results will be disseminated: an open CL library consisting of theoretical and pedagogical material is available to all interested parties.

As a result of the project, material, tools and know-how are created for the development of CL in nursing education. The results promote the development of nursing CL in various healthcare environments in all partner countries and more widely in Europe. Healthcare services and patients benefit from the outcomes resulting from the improvement in the quality and effectiveness of evidence-based nursing. During the project, we will reach at least 1,000 stakeholders with all our activities.
