Because of the international nature of this masterclass, English is the language of instruction. Teachers who teach in Languages Other Than English (CLIL LOTE) are also welcome.

There will be time for networking, exchanging ideas, sharing good practices, picking each other's brains, answering each other's questions and, above all, there will be time to inspire and to get inspired. 

To top things off, interesting and inspirational ideas will be provided in every workshop, so to unleash all the CLIL potential in your lessons

In each workshop, you will...

  • do hands-on work, so you can immediately turn your ideas into (re)usable and effective teaching materials.

CLIL teachers from around the world who have already some CLIL teaching experience (beginners or advanced). 

Programme

Day 1: Wednesday 12 February 2025

 

Morning sessions

  • Registration
  • Welcome session: The masterclass experience begins with a warm welcome and a brief orientation.
  • CLIL speed dating: Rapid-fire interactions will be facilitated through targeted questions, allowing participants to quickly connect and share insights.
  • Scaffolding workshop: You will delve into four types of scaffolding with preparatory online input. Each participant will find practical examples for their own teaching experiences. The session includes activities for individual preparation, small group discussions, and cross-group exchanges, all enriched by Artificial  Intelligence (AI) to enhance the learning process.

 

Afternoon sessions

  • Sharing good practices: You will have the opportunity to pitch your classroom strategies and gather valuable feedback. Learning questions for Friday's workshop will be collected using interactive tools.
  • Course material development: Time will be allocated for participants to reflect on and discuss elements of course materials they wish to enhance or share.
  • Mastering AI to enhance your teaching: This session will delve into the art of crafting effective prompts to leverage artificial intelligence in the classroom. Participants will receive a range of tips and tricks to guide AI, enhancing learning experiences and streamlining teaching practices. Through practical examples, you will learn how to optimize AI-driven activities for more engaging and efficient CLIL instruction. 

 

Day 2: Thursday  13 February 2025

 

Morning sessions

  • Sharing learning questions: Rich peer-to-peer discussions will be facilitated by learning questions within strategically formed groups to maximize inspiration and idea exchange.

 

Afternoon sessions

  • Exploring Leuven: Enjoy a free afternoon discovering the historic and vibrant city of Leuven. Immerse yourself in its charming streets, cultural sites, and cosy cafes—an ideal backdrop for informal networking and relaxation.

 

Day 3: Friday 14 February 2025

 

Morning sessions

  • The role of output in CLIL: The session will start with a foundational overview of why output (oral or written) is crucial in CLIL lessons, covering challenges and solutions. Participants will choose from a variety of strategy cards to apply to their lessons, share ideas, and receive peer feedback. Additional activities will include innovating information gap tasks and language support through cognitive discourse functions.

 

Afternoon sessions

  • Student interaction: The focus will be on cooperative learning in CLIL contexts. Participants will learn about and share effective cooperative learning strategies supported by CLIL-specific examples.
  • Farewell and certificates

How to prepare for the masterclass?

During the masterclass, sharing good practices and exchanging with colleagues are key. We believe there is great value in this exchange of ideas, materials, and questions. To make this work, we ask you to bring your lesson materials, examples of activities, your workbook... 

 

  • Bring at least one lesson you are really happy with and/or proud of. 
  • Bring one lesson you struggle with or have (a) question(s) about. Tips from colleagues and the masterclass can help you out!
